Bayern Munich sporting director gives emotional response over claims he wants to quit after chaotic transfer window and Uli Hoeness' public criticism

Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl has been forced to publicly address his future at the club, delivering a response to the speculations.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Eberl has emphatically rejected speculation that he is considering quitting his post, delivering an emotional defence of his commitment to the club. Speaking to the media ahead of Bayern's weekend fixture, Eberl insisted his "heart is here" and that he has "never ever thought about quitting."

Eberl's forceful denial comes after a period of intense pressure following a turbulent summer transfer window and public criticism from club icon and honorary president Uli Hoeness, who reportedly described the 51-year-old as "quite sensitive". The club's transfer strategy has been a source of fierce debate, leading to rumours about Eberl's future and his relationship with key figures at the Allianz Arena. In his address, Eberl defended his summer business, stating the club had successfully reduced the squad size, generated a transfer surplus, and lowered the wage bill.

Despite external perceptions of a chaotic transfer window, Eberl believes Bayern Munich achieved all their primary strategic objectives. He claims the club successfully reduced the squad, generated a transfer surplus, saved on wages, and created space for young talent to progress.

WHAT EBERL SAID

“My heart is here. I never ever thought about quitting here because I have far too much planned for that. I don’t want to work at Bayern Munich; I want to be successful with Bayern Munich. That’s what I get up for every day, that’s what I fight for every day, what I’m passionate about,” Eberl said.

“We have completed a transfer period in which we implemented many things within the guidelines we had. We reduced the squad, we generated a transfer surplus, we saved on wages, we found very, very good quality, we have a squad with which we are very, very happy, we have created space for talent. And now it’s really about football and nothing else.”

With Eberl publicly recommitting to the club, the immediate focus now shifts to results on the pitch. Bayern are set to face Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening, where manager Vincent Kompany and the new-look squad will be under pressure to perform. Eberl's tenure will ultimately be judged by the success of his signings and the team's ability to compete for major honours this season.
